It’s a social media pretty similar to tumblr! It looks like this

Like tumblr, you can post shit on your own personal corner. Like tumblr, you can follow people, or dive in tags to find stuff you like.

Unlike tumblr, there’s also a community system (similar to livejournal/dreamwidth I’m told, though I’ve never used either of those) Here’s a random community I pulled

You can post shit on your own blog, or in a community (or reblog stuff on a community.) “ok but what’s the point” the point is that you can follow communities, and whatever is posted here will also show up on your dash! So instead of having to scour the tag to find every frog blogger on the site, you can just follow the frog community, and whoever posts stuff on it will show up on your dash.

Another difference from tumblr is that you can’t reblog something with an addition. What you can do, however, is straight-up comment on a post, like this

Speaking of posts! You ever wished that tumblr had more privacy features? Being able to reblog-lock a post, while still having it visible to everyone? Or locking a post just to your followers, or your mutuals, or yourself? Pillowfort got you covered.

(Iirc anything goes except loli/shota/stuff that depict underage children, and sex workers can’t propose their services directly through pillowfort, but I invite you to check their terms of services yourself to check.)

“But Verse, no advertiser wants to be on a site with porn! How can they allow it, then?” Well. They’ve got no ads. The entire thing is user-funded (bit like ao3) and they got a comprehensive breakdown of their budgetting available for all

You can donate however you want, or you can subscribe to the premium suite, which will give you perks such as multiple avatars, bonus avatar frames, and an increase size limit for photos/gifs. None of it is mandatory though the key features are for everyone.

Pillowfort is technically still in beta, but they’ve been steadily introducing updates ever since I got here (a whole… five years ago, holy shit) and the mod team is generally really responsive to any issue that might arise.

So yeah. It’s a social media, and one I enjoy and wants to support. And I need to do propaganda for it because, while I hope I sold it well to you, it does have one major flaw: it doesn’t have that many users. To give you an idea, I think I’m the only person who regularly posts shit in the fate tag/communities (though there’s one arjuna/karna shipper who shows up too every once in a while.) It’s a good thing for some stuff (I find that I interact a lot with people I wouldn’t normally interact with because, well, there’s no one else here. Leads to very interesting discussions since they’ve got largely different interests from mine) but it can be a bit lonely to post blorbo on main and have no response. So I’m trying to get people in here to liven up the place a bit.

If you’re interested, I will gladly give you a list of users I find cool and communities I like so you can have a starting pack of rad lads to follow, but until then you can check my own pillowfort.

Since the site is in beta, you need an invitation to get in, so as to regulate the flow of users (the one time they opened the site to the public it crashed the servers lol) you can get an invitation for ten bucks I believe? Or through an existing user for free. I’m gonna dump all my invite codes below, feel free to take one, if they all get used up by the time you show up hmu and I’ll ask around if anyone has a free key for you.
